Description |
Good King Wenceslas is set to a 13th century melody called Tempus adest floridum. The words were penned by John Mason Neale in 1853. It was written for the Feast of St. Stephen. The title bearer was Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia or Vaclac the Good. The version that Ken McCoy arranged was from Arthur Harris' arrangement. McCoy arranged Good King Wenceslas for concert band in 1997 for The Philadelphia Orchestra. It was commissioned by and dedicated to The Heisey Wind Ensemble, Richard L. Blatti conductor. Rick Blatti Nov. 1997 Ken McCoy graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Ohio. After earning his degree in music education, he taught instrumental music for four years in public schools. In 1977, he accepted a position with the United States Field Band as a staff arranger and eventually was promoted to Chief Arranger. McCoy's arrangements and compositions have been performed in all 50 US states and several foreign countries. In 1995, he joined the Ohio State University Marching Band Staff and arranged at least one full half time show per year for the band culminating with his 23rd show in 2017. Ken McCoy passed away January 11, 2018. |
