Description |
Glenn Miller Medley is a compilation of songs written and or performed by Glenn Miller including Moonlite Serenade (1935), String of Pearls (1941), Pennsylvania 6-5000 (1940, Jerry Gray and Carl Sigman), Chattanooga Choo-Choo (1941, Mack Gordon and Harry Warren), In The Mood (1939, Tin Pan Alley, Joe Garland, and Andy Razaf), Little Brown Jug (1869, Joseph Eastburn Winner), and American Patrol (1885, Frank White Meacham). Miller was at the height of his career when he disbanded his orchestra and joined the army in 1942. He lead the Army Air Force Band between 1942-1944. His death was abrupt when the airplane he was on disappeared in 1944. Ken McCoy arranged this medley in 1984 for the US Army Field Band under Lieutenant Commander William E. Clark, 1979-1991. Ken McCoy graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Ohio. After earning his degree in music education, he taught instrumental music for four years in public schools. In 1977, he accepted a position with the United States Field Band as a staff arranger and eventually was promoted to Chief Arranger. McCoy's arrangements and compositions have been performed in all 50 US states and several foreign countries. In 1995, he joined the Ohio State University Marching Band Staff and arranged at least one full half time show per year for the band culminating with his 23rd show in 2017. Ken McCoy passed away January 11, 2018. |
